Description

The Castillo de San Joaquin, a fortification, was completed here on December 8, 1794 by Jose Joaquin de Arrillaga, the sixth Governor of California. The original Spanish fortification was later replaced by the Presideo of San Francisco which is now part of the Golden Gate National Recreation Area.
